Review by hotel critic
Guesthouse Poortackere is a fascinating blend of historical charm and modern convenience, located just a short stroll away from Ghent's bustling city center. The old monastery ambiance creates a tranquil setting, ideal for those seeking a peaceful retreat amidst the city's vibrant energy.I found the staff to be accommodating and friendly, offering assistance with city maps and luggage storage. The room, though simple in decor, provided a comfortable sanctuary after a day of exploration. The cleanliness of the facilities, including the pristine bed linens and towels, exceeded expectations. The hotel offers practical amenities such as free Wi-Fi, luggage storage, and a 24-hour reception, adding to the overall value proposition. The option for laundry services and dry cleaning is a convenient perk for travelers looking to refresh their wardrobe during their stay. While the lack of a bar/lounge area or terrace may deter those seeking a more luxurious experience, the affordable rates and excellent location make Guesthouse Poortackere a sensible choice for budget-conscious travelers looking to immerse themselves in Ghent's rich history.
